Publishing testimonials

Some nice comments people have made about my publishing work:

Pippa has worked for Five Leaves Publications for eight years, part time. Her jobs have included proofreading, minor editing, typesetting, cover design and project management of books. She works on her own and under direct supervision, and with authors, editors and printers. Very good at problem solving. I don’t know what we would have done without her.

Ross Bradshaw, owner and publisher, Five Leaves Publications/Bookshop (www.fiveleaves.co.uk, www.fiveleavesbookshop.co.uk)

Pippa was responsible for the typesetting, layout, proofreading and cover design of a poetry pamphlet of mine [The Oxygen Man] when she worked at Five Leaves Publications. She did a beautiful job, and it remains a publication of which I am very proud.

Joanne Limburg, author and poet (www.joannelimburg.net)

I worked with Pippa over the course of several years when she was part of a community literary organization I ran. She was an incredibly hard-working and dedicated support, and could be counted on for attention to detail, thoughtfulness, and thoroughness. In addition, she is a cheerful and easy-going person and I always felt comfortable working with her. Her professional experience (both in and out of the literary/arts sphere) has made her a great strategic thinker, fluent in dealing with the many systems—governmental, organizational, electronic—that the work of writing and art-making intersects with. Pippa is, without a doubt, someone I would want on my team.

Éireann Lorsung, writer and poet, founder of Nottingham Poetry Series

Pippa’s invaluable work on a variety of projects is well known to me – she is brilliant. Not only is she talented and experienced across a range of literary activities (and very hard-working) she also has an excellent eye for detail. Moreover, she is a truly lovely person to work with!

Jenny Swann, publisher, founder of Candlestick Press and One Plum Poem

Pippa is phenomenally knowledgeable about the literary industry and how it works: what to do in order to be heard, where to go for help, how to get things done. She makes things happen. She is also extremely generous, warm, and supportive, and has been very valuable to our students.

Dr Rory Waterman, Senior Lecturer in English at Nottingham Trent University

Eagle-eyed and creatively critical, Pippa has become my go-to editor & proof reader, and her ebook production skills, judgements and speed are second to none I’ve found. Just relieved to have finally found somebody so dependable to watch my back and do what I can’t be fagged to.

John ‘Brick’ Clark, cartoonist and writer (www.brickbats.co.uk)

I first met Pippa Hennessy when she facilitated the Nottingham Writers’ Studio events and I hold her organisational powers in the greatest esteem. Since that time we have worked closely together as she proofed a recent publication of mine for Five Leaves. Her computer skills are excellent and I would recommend Pippa to any freelance writer such as myself who needs state of the art digital assistance.

Michael Eaton, scriptwriter, playwright and author

Over the last five years, Pippa has designed, typeset and proofread several flagship poetry publications for us, taking each project from raw text and imagery to final printed book. On each occasion she has managed every stage, inspired confidence and collaborated in an endlessly supportive, patient, transparent and professional way.
There are a lot of people out there set up to do the above but without the skills to do it – Pippa is most definitely not one of those. Her work is of an extremely high quality and she demonstrates genuine care and respect for the material she is working with and the writers and artists behind it. We/I can’t recommend her highly enough.

Lydia Towsey, Arts in Health Coordinator, Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust

Pippa Hennessy edited and typeset my last poetry collection, Things of Substance: New and Selected Poems, published by Five Leaves in 2013. I could not have done without her very professional yet personal advice and support. In 2014 I worked on a project with her in two Derbyshire secondary schools where she was a joint tutor and then published the work of the students in a fabulous book of their poems and images. Again a very professional piece of work which nevertheless showed her understanding of the needs and hopes of schools and their students.

Dr Liz Cashdan, poet and tutor for the Open College of the Arts

The Nottingham Writer’s Studio grew from 60 to 200 members largely thanks to Pip’s enthusiasm, passion and care.

James Walker (Chair of Nottingham Writers’ Studio 2012-15)

I worked closely with Pippa on the organisation of a Short Story Writing Competition as part of the 40th Anniversary Celebrations of City Arts (Nottingham). Her skills, knowledge and enthusiasm for managing this project have been outstanding throughout and her experience and wise counsel has made a huge difference to ensuring the success of the project. There are many elements to the project she undertook and she handled them all expertly. She is a consummate professional, and a completely trustworthy and efficient administrator and manager. I would not hesitate to recommend Pippa for commissions involving ebook publication, delivering writing and writing industry-related workshops and talks, advice on publishing, self-publishing and other writing-related topics, and arts project management.
